PORTFOLIO: PROJECTS

Being able to manage construction and renovation projects is a key component of success as a golf course superintendent. Almost every course has some sort of ongoing renovation or master plan as time goes on. I have been directly associated with numerous projects both large and small, with in-house staff and hired contractors. Many images and videos are provided below that showcase my actual experience with course projects. Full details on the master plan renovation at Aronimink are included below.

2016 MASTER PLAN RESTORATION - ARONIMINK GOLF CLUB

Restored Aronimink Golf Club with Gil Hanse and Hanse Golf Course Design to Donald Ross’ as-built design as per 1929 aerial photos.

 

Reclaimed 29,000 square feet of lost green space, 5 acres of fairway width, and returned teeing grounds to original free-form shape.

 

Restored 174 bunkers with Better Billy Bunker liner.

 

Worked closely with Hanse Golf Course Design and Total Turf Golf Services in making field decisions and supervising all construction and grow-in.

COMMUNICATION DURING PROJECTS

Communication is critical to ensuring members understand the processes on the course and why things are happening. Through my work on the Master Plan at Aronimink, I recorded, edited and narrated aerial drone videos to communicate progress and updates to membership. Example videos are included below:

2015 REGRASSING OF FAIRWAY SURROUNDS - ARONIMINK GC

- Regrassed 25' perimeter around all fairways ("inside the ropes") to turf type tall fescue

- Existing ryegrass struggled during heat stress, susceptible to gray leaf spot

- Turf type tall fescue, extremely hearty and disease resistant

- Previous rough contaminated with Poa and bentgrass

- Led team in planning and executing $250,000+ project

 

 

2014 XGD INSTALLATION - MANASQUAN RIVER GC

- Over a three year period, led team in XGD installation of all putting greens

- Worked closely with Golf Preservations and led mostly in-house team in execution

- Learned to control costs and materials to meet budget expectations

 

 

 

2013 BUNKER/FESCUE RENOVATION WITH RON PRICHARD -
MANASQUAN RIVER GC

- Over a three year period, led team in XGD installation of all putting greens

- Worked closely with Golf Preservations and led mostly in-house team in execution

- Learned to control costs and materials to meet budget expectations
